Basketry

Warning: this blog has an inordinate amount of pictures...

The finished splits.

Splits in the mold.

Bottom woven w/ handle.

Then the "weavers".

The finished product.

The basket makers: Dad and myself... I am holding the basket shown above, while Dad holds a basket he made shortly before.

That looks like a tedious task. But it also looks kind of fun :) I'm amazed at your versatility.

Looks like fun! It reminds me of the garden. :)

Is that all that is involved?? just bend some strips of wood and put them together like that in those few simple steps???

Alex,

Simple enough.

Now you make one!

I was being facetious - anytime I've tried making a basket I've gotten as far as having an ugly looking potholder with stuff sticking off the side only to discover that what I'm doing either won't work or I don't have the patience to make it work.

Very neat baskets John! It was fun to see the process in pictures. Did you guys make all the spilts too? I've always thought it would be fun to learn to make baskets...but my few attempts haven't really worked, guess I'll have to try again someday. ; )
